Brain & Spine Care

Kaleida Health provides specialized care for both children and adults with neurological conditions. Our services include evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders, brain and nerve conditions, neuromuscular disease and disorders of the central and peripheral nervous systems.  
 

Conditions we treat include:

• Seizures and epilepsy
• Headaches and migraines, concussion and craniofacial pain syndromes
• Stroke, brain injuries and neuro-rehabilitation needs
• Movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, Tourette’s, tremors and abnormal movements
• Neuromuscular diseases such as muscular dystrophy and myasthenia gravis
• Brain and spinal cord tumors (neuro-oncology)
• Developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder and other pediatric neurologic conditions
• Sleep disorders, degenerative neurological diseases and neurocutaneous syndromes, including neurofibromatosis, Sturge-Weber and tuberous sclerosis
• Memory problems, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive impairments
   

Specialized Pediatric Services:
 

• Multidisciplinary neuromuscular care
• Pediatric neuro-oncology and movement disorder programs
• Inpatient epilepsy unit with state-of-the-art monitoring and therapy
• Neurophysiology testing, including EEGs, evoked potentials and polysomnograms

All neurologists are board-eligible or certified and serve as full-time faculty of the Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo.

The Neurological Surgical Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) provides advanced neuro-critical care for patients with severe brain injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and post-neurosurgical complications, with continuous monitoring and multidisciplinary oversight.

Stroke services include ischemic stroke treatment, hemorrhagic stroke care, stroke prevention and post-stroke recovery. 

Epilepsy services include seizure diagnosis, epilepsy monitoring, medication management and surgical evaluation for complex or drug-resistant epilepsy

Movement disorder services include Parkinson’s disease treatment, tremor management, dystonia care and deep brain stimulation.

Multiple sclerosis care includes diagnosis, disease-modifying therapy, symptom management and long-term monitoring for patients with relapsing-remitting and progressive forms of MS, supported by access to emerging therapies and clinical research.
