DAISY Award honorees personify Kaleida Health’s remarkable patient experience. These nurses consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care, and they are recognized as outstanding role models in our nursing community.
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses
Each DAISY Award honoree is recognized at a public ceremony in her or his unit and receives an award certificate, a DAISY Award pin and a hand carved stone sculpture entitled, A Healer’s Touch. Everyone in the unit celebrates with Tim Hortons cinnamon rolls, a favorite aroma of Patrick’s during his illness.
Patients, visitors, nurses and employees may nominate a deserving nurse using the online nomination form, or by downloading the printable brochure.

DAISY Nurse Leader Award
Do you know a nurse leader who engages and motivates nurses, creates an environment of trust and compassion, and serves as a model of Leading with CARE? Nominate them for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
Patients, families and staff may submit nominations through the end of September. The Nurse Professional Practice Council chooses a winner at each site based on the selection criteria, and the chief nursing officer at each site makes the final decision. Honorees receive a special DAISY Nurse Leader certificate, a DAISY recognition pin and a unique Healer’s Touch sculpture.

What Sets a Nurse Leader Apart
A Recognized Nurse Leader
A nurse supervisor, assistant nurse manager, nurse manager, director, senior director or chief nursing officer.
Creates a Culture of Trust
Builds an environment of trust, compassion, respect, professional development and ethical behavior.
Models Leading with CARE
Mentors staff by exhibiting compassion and exemplary practice as a role model for the team.
Inspires Better Outcomes
Motivates staff with a shared vision and enthusiasm to achieve better results for themselves and their patients.
Elevates the Profession
Promotes and enhances the image of nursing within Kaleida Health, the community and the profession.
Honored for Leadership
Recipients receive a DAISY Nurse Leader certificate, a recognition pin and a Healer’s Touch sculpture.

About the DAISY Foundation
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died of complications of the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura at the age of 33. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.
During Patrick’s eight week hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided, not only to Patrick but to everyone in his family. In his memory they set out to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere who make an enormous difference in the lives of so many people through the work they do every day.
