What Is a Sports Injury?
A sports injury is different from everyday wear and tear on the muscles and bones. Sports injuries occur when there is a break, tear or other trauma to muscle, bone or tissue during physical activity. These injuries occur in athletes at the elite level as well as those physically active at a recreational level.
Sports injuries fall within one of two categories, chronic or acute. Chronic injuries develop over time from repetitive use of a specific body part. Acute injuries occur suddenly. A fall or a collision with another athlete might cause an acute injury. Whether your injury is chronic or acute, Kaleida Health orthopaedists are here to get you back in the game swiftly and safely.
