Frequently Asked Questions

At your initial appointment, our providers evaluate your current level of health, your nutritional habits and your goals. They work all of this into a comprehensive nutrition assessment, which guides their care plan and recommendations for you.

Throughout the entire process, you are at the center of the conversation and are encouraged to ask questions, voice your likes and dislikes and work cooperatively to make a care plan that works for you.

Your nutritionist will send you home with recommendations, tips and tricks to best achieve the milestones you are aiming for, with follow-ups scheduled to routinely check in on your progress.

Someone might make an appointment with Nutrition Services if they are having trouble controlling their weight and need support and resources, if they have an illness or disorder that requires a certain diet, or if they are looking to improve their overall nutrition, eating habits and health.

Conditions could include cancer, diabetes, food allergies, irritable bowel syndrome, heart disease and hypertension, kidney disease, malnutrition, metabolic or autoimmune disorders, or a variety of other inherited or acquired conditions.

Most insurance plans cover nutrition counseling with a provider referral. Our team also has a pilot program that connects uninsured patients to Nutrition Services through a partnership with master’s programs at D’Youville University and the University at Buffalo.

Yes. In addition to individualized nutrition counseling, Kaleida Health provides group classes for people living with diabetes. These classes offer information on how diet affects diabetes, tips on planning healthy meals, interpreting blood glucose and A1C readings and coping with stress, all in a supportive group environment.
