Financial Assistance Program

Kaleida Health understands that there are times when patients in need of care may not be able to pay for the care they receive. The Financial Assistance Program offers discounts to individuals based on their income and household size. We can also help you apply for free or low cost insurance if you are eligible.

For free, confidential help, or for a copy of the Financial Assistance Policy and application, please contact our Financial Counseling team at (716) 859-8979. Applications are available in several languages.

Who Qualifies for a Discount

How Eligibility Works

  • Uninsured and underinsured patients

Financial assistance is available for individuals who meet the income and household size guidelines.

  • Care comes first

You cannot be denied medically necessary care because you are unable to pay for that care.

  • Regardless of immigration status

You may be eligible for our Financial Assistance Program no matter your immigration status.

  • Discounts scaled to need

The amount of the discount varies based on your income and the size of your household, following Federal Poverty Level guidelines.

What Is Covered

All medically necessary services at Kaleida Health are covered by the program, including outpatient services, emergency care, admissions and home nursing care. An eligible individual cannot be charged more than the amounts generally billed for emergency or other medically necessary care.

The program does not cover private physician charges for doctors who provide services in the hospital, Medicare client shares or spend down amounts, routine dental work, cosmetic or other non medically necessary services, or private room differences and telephone or television charges. Speak with your private physician to ask whether they offer a discount plan.

If you do not qualify under the income guidelines, Kaleida Health offers an installment payment discount available to all patients. Call (716) 859-7200 for information.

How to Apply

You may apply before your appointment, when you arrive at the hospital, or when you receive a bill in the mail. Once we receive proof of income we can process your application and determine your discount. After your application is received, Kaleida Health will mail you a letter within 30 days letting you know if you are approved and the level of discount awarded. You cannot be required to pay a bill while your application is in process.
