State-of-the-Art Pathology Reporting System Goes On Line

Kaleida Health Laboratories is transitioning to a new pathology reporting system that streamlines workflows and promises to deliver reports more efficiently than our legacy system. The adoption of Voicebrook VoiceOver PRO technology will also help position Kaleida Health as a leader in healthcare data analytics for years to come.

  • VoiceOver PRO is based on state-of-the-art speech recognition technology that uses voice commands to create complete, accurate pathology reports with fewer steps
  • A library of customizable reporting templates, accessible by voice command, simplifies and standardizes routine case reports, seamlessly turning the pathologist's words into data
  • It's the first system Kaleida Health Laboratories has ever used that was designed specifically for pathology reporting

Since our Dictaphone reporting system is no longer supported by the vendor, Lab leadership decided to make a virtue of necessity by upgrading to the VoiceOver system.

  • Faster turnaround of pathology reports saves time and money, and reduces the time to therapy for the patients we serve
  • Standardized reporting, in addition to simplifying the process for pathologists, decreases the chance for error or incomplete reporting
  • Built-in regulatory compliance helps us achieve our quality control objectives

The data captured by VoiceOver PRO can be leveraged for pathology synoptic reporting.

  • Synoptic reporting not only ensures that all reports contain all necessary data elements, it promotes interoperability and data exchange between networks
  • The data can be used to help providers get a bird's-eye view of the overall health of their practice, making it easier to provide recommended care
  • Pathology synoptic reporting also provides invaluable metrics to create a rmore complete portrait of Western New York's population health
  • That deidentified data can be used to guide future policy decisions, research projects and even the response to public health emergencies

About 50 pathologists, pathology assistants, anatomic pathology assistants and residents now have access to VoiceOver PRO following more than a year of behind-the-scenes efforts to research, install, test and train in the new tech. Thank you to everyone whose hard work and perseverance made this project possible, including, but not necessarily limited to:

  • the clinicians and staff of Kaleida Health Laboratories
  • our partners in Kaleida Health's IT department
  • the experts from Voicebrook
  • all the test pilots and early adopters who are helping to perfect the implementation
