Joseph Scioli, Jr., has been named senior director of safety and security for Kaleida Health. In this very critical role, Scioli will be responsible for a systemized approach to security across all Kaleida Health facilities and campuses.
“The safety and security of our patients, visitors and entire workforce is critically important to all of us,” said Don Boyd, president and CEO of Kaleida Health. “It is essential that we have a strong and coordinated security team throughout the organization. This was again emphasized during Listening Leader sessions across our organization.”
Scioli previously served as director of safety and security for Kaleida Health from 2014 through 2021, where he oversaw the Public Safety and Security Department, access control system for all Kaleida sites and a 1300+ video camera surveillance system and 24/7 dispatch center. He also served as co-chair of the Kaleida Health Workplace Violence Committee.
With more than 25 years of experience with the New York State Police, Scioli previously served as captain and zone commander, where he supervised 73 uniformed New York State Police officers, implemented security policies and assured quality control measures, among other tasks.
In addition, Scioli previously held positions as lieutenant of the special investigations unit, internal affairs bureau and division chief of the drug enforcement task force.
A graduate of the State University of New York Empire State College, Scioli also received training in workplace violence, counter terrorism, AED/CPR, equal employment opportunity, effective response to complex incidents and suicide awareness. He is a certified New York State Peace Officer and licensed armed guard.
Scioli will oversee the site security managers and report directly to Cheryl Klass, chief operating officer. He will begin on April 24 and will work closely with John Strait, director of security and safety, who announced he will be retiring in June after more than 40 years with Kaleida Health.
