Kaleida Health is proud to announce Rabie Stephan, MD, FACS, has been appointed medical director for the wound program at Buffalo General Medical Center. In this role, Dr. Stephan will coordinate wound care across the hospital for patients who need it. Most recently, Dr. Stephan served as an attending surgeon specializing in wound care and Hyperbaric Medicine at United Health Systems, Binghamton General Hospital, in Binghamton, New York. Prior to that, Dr. Stephan practiced in the wound clinic at ECMC and DeGraff Medical Park.
Dr. Stephan is an accomplished surgeon with extensive expertise in transplant surgery and critical care medicine. He began his academic journey at the University of Tuebingen, Germany, where he pursued his premedical education before earning his MD cum laude from the University of Bonn, Germany. Dr. Stephan's postgraduate training included Yale University, Michigan State University, and the State University of New York at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, where he completed his residency and fellowships in surgery and renal/pancreas transplantation.
Throughout his career, Dr. Stephan has held various academic and clinical positions, including assistant professor of surgery at the University at Buffalo and roles as director and chief of transplant surgery at prominent medical centers such as North Shore University Hospital and Kaleida Health. He has been actively involved in clinical research, focusing on immunological tolerance in organ transplantation and early rejection markers.
Dr. Stephan is board-certified in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and holds memberships in several professional societies including the American Medical Association and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.
