OLEAN — Jim Stitt Jr., president and CEO of Cutco Corporation, and Carolyn Boser Newhouse of Bradford, Pa., have been elected to the Upper Allegheny Health System Board of Directors.
The board oversees Olean General Hospital and Bradford Regional Medical Center, both Kaleida Health facilities.
Dr. Muhammed Javed, UAHS board chairman, said board members “deeply value the dedication” of the new members, who will serve three-year terms.
“Our hospitals are not only essential healthcare providers, but also vital economic drivers for our communities,” Javed said in a statement. “Serving on the board is a significant commitment, requiring thoughtful leadership and a shared passion for advancing our mission.
“Carolyn and Jim bring valuable experience and fresh insights, and we are grateful for their willingness to take on this important responsibility,” he added.
Stitt, a resident of Olean, was promoted to president/CEO of Cutco in 2017. He joined the company in February 1997 as a process control and quality assurance engineer. Throughout his time at Cutco he advanced through the ranks, becoming president and CEO of Cutco Cutlery in 2013 and, later that year, being named president and COO of Cutco Corporation.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering technology from the University of Dayton and a Master of Science degree in Professional Leadership from St. Bonaventure University.
Stitt has served on several community boards including the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, the Key Bank Western new York District Advisory Board, Leadership Cattaraugus and the United Way of Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties.
Newhouse has been the executive director of the Bradford Area Alliance since 2018, leading strategic initiatives to enhance economic viability and resilience within the community. A founder of multiple businesses, she has previously served as the deputy secretary for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, a role to which she was appointed by former Gov. Tom Corbett.
Prior to returning back to the area in 2018 from Washington, D.C., Newhouse served as Team Lead, supporting 200,000 transitioning service members across more than 300 worldwide military installations.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in computer science from University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and an executive MBA from the University at Buffalo. She has served the community through multiple boards including the Pitt-Bradford Advisory Board, Leadership McKean, North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning & Development Committee, Northwest Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center (NWIRC) and Team PA Foundation.
