OLEAN —

Olean General Hospital welcomes a new general surgeon, Dr. Robert Jones, to the Upper Allegheny Health System network of physicians in the region.

Jones will join the UAHS team of experienced general surgeons that includes Dr. Luis Gonzalez, Dr. Eduardo Morales, Dr. Dadrie Baptiste, Dr. Safi Malik and Dr. Zahid Chohan, general and vascular surgery. The surgeons serve patients at both OGH and Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Jones will specialize in laparoscopic gallbladder removal and appendectomy, hernia repairs, inguinal, umbilical, and ventral, small bowel and colon resection, breast lumpectomy and mastectomy, thyroidectomy, upper endoscopy and colonoscopy.

“I have various procedures that I perform more frequently due to the commonality of the diagnosis,” he said. “However, I always like to think of myself as a true general surgeon.”

Jones said he has the ability to adapt and address the needs of the patients through his diverse skillset.

Jones earned his medical degree from Texas A&M College of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residencies at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Steward Easton Hospital in Pennsylvania and University of Illinois at Chicago, Mount Sinai Hospital.

He is also a member of the American College of Surgeons and American Medical Association.

“We’re happy to be expanding the surgical team with the addition of Dr. Jones,” said Dr. Jill Owens, president of UAHS. “What’s great about this team is we have a variety of surgeons that can collaborate on cases and provide 24/7 coverage for any emergent surgical needs.

“We want the region we serve, and beyond, to know about the services available and that they can trust our experienced team with their care,” Owens added.

Jones is accepting new patients at Olean General on the second floor in the General Surgery Suite. Appointments may be made by calling (716) 701-1711. Once credentialed through Pennsylvania, he will begin seeing patients in Bradford as well.

“I perform surgery compassionately to improve my patient’s quality of life and health,” Jones said. “There is nothing like a patient’s trust in a surgeon. I seek to engage that trust with my knowledge and skills to benefit every patient.”
