Olean Times Herald: New vascular surgeon settling in at Olean General Hospital

OLEAN — Dr. Thomas Langan, vascular surgeon, is settling in with Olean General Hospital and Upper Allegheny Health System in its physician network.

Langan joins vascular surgeon, Dr. Zahid Chohan, in serving patients at the hospitals that make up Upper Allegheny Health System.

“I am excited to be joining UAHS and to bring my unique skill set to this community,” Langan said. “My primary focus is making measurable improvements to the quality of life my patients. I also have particular interests in healthcare process improvement and in increasing the accessibility of care to those who need it most.”

As a vascular surgeon, Langan specializes in treating disease of the vascular system as known as the circulatory system including blood vessels, arteries that carry oxygen-rich blood and veins that carry blood to the heart.

He has already been featured in the Olean Times Herald for performing OGH’s first endovascular aneurysm repair procedure. A critical EVAR procedure is performed to manage abdominal aortic aneurysms. In this specific case, the patient had a saccular, infrarenal aortic aneurysm, which has an increased risk of rupturing causing a life-threatening incident.

He specializes in the treatment of carotid artery disease, occlusive peripheral arterial disease, aortic aneurysmal disease, venous disease, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and pulmonary embolisms (PE). Langan’s procedures include carotid endarterectomy, transcarotid artery revascularization, endovascular aneurysm repair, thoracic endovascular aortic repair, peripheral vascular bypass surgery, endovascular angioplasty and stenting, phlebectomy, scleroptherapy, endovenous ablation suction and mechanical thrombectomy, and embolectomy.

“I’m from the greater Buffalo area, but my wife and I spent a lot of time in this area as we love the outdoors,” Langan said. “This region is full of such natural beauty and splendor.

“I love that there is such a wonderful sense of community in Bradford, Olean, and the Twin Tiers,” he added. “I can’t wait to form long-lasting relationship with patients, neighbors, and the community.”

Dr. Jill Owens, president of UAHS, said adding Langan to a growing team of surgeons will help UAHS provide comprehensive surgical services to the region.

“Dr. Langan’s skillset will be not only a great addition to our services, but will act as a great complement to our other providers throughout our physician network,” she said.

Langan earned a medical degree at the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, where he also completed his general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship. Langan also earned a Master of Business Administration at UB.

He is accepting new patients in the Comprehensive Vascular Center located at 623 Main St., ground floor, in Olean. Appointments can be made by calling (716) 375-7035. Once credentialed in Pa, Langan will also see patients at BRMC.
