OLEAN — Olean General Hospital hosted U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy for a tour of the hospital on Thursday.
OGH leadership toured Langworthy through various departments that officials said set the hospital apart from other rural hospitals, such as the intensive care unit, obstetrics, maternity and delivery, and the interventional cardiac catheterization lab. The congressman met several caregivers throughout his visit as well as learned more about the services that OGH provides for patients from throughout Western New York and the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania.
“We hope (the visit) reinforced the importance of Olean General Hospital to not only the Olean community but this region,” said UAHS Board of Directors Chairman Dr. Muhammed Javed. “With Congressman Langworthy’s support to advocate for healthcare improvements we can continue to move the needle in a positive direction for our local hospital. Through collaboration and alignment, we can accomplish great things together for this region.”
Langworthy and OGH officials also discussed the numerous challenges rural hospitals like OGH, a Kaleida Health facility, face and how the federal government can support initiatives that will make a positive impact on rural hospitals.
