OLEAN — Dr. Jason Dana Dunleavy has settled in as the new medical director of the interventional radiology program at Olean General Hospital.
Dunleavy, who before coming to Olean practiced in Buffalo, specializes in minimally invasive interventional spine interventions; musculoskeletal image guided interventions, which include complex manual and power bone biopsy and interventional oncology; and various orthopedic interventions.
He also works in collaboration with primary care providers and gynecologists for uterine artery embolization (UAE) or phlebectomy.
As a vascular and interventional radiologist, he specializes in the treatment of compression fractures, usually caused by osteoporosis or spinal tumors; pelvic congestion, varicose veins, fibroids, bone tumors, nerve pain, back pain and other injuries to the spinal cord; sacroiliac joint pain, sacral fractures and pain, dialysis intervention, enlarged prostate, knee osteoarthritis pain; and interventional oncology.
Dunleavy, a New Hampshire native, previously served as the director of vascular and interventional radiology at Windsong Interventional and Vascular in Buffalo. He is certified by the American Board of Radiology with a certificate of added qualification (CAQ) in interventional radiology, and he was selected for the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society.
He also spent additional time training in musculoskeletal and spine interventions and is the vie chair of the Pain Council for the Society of Interventional Radiology.
Dunleavy earned his medical degree from the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont in Burlington. He completed his residency in radiology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland, where he also completed his fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology.
“Dr. Dunleavy is an experienced vascular and interventional radiologist who has a proven track record of providing exceptional care and implementing long-standing interventional radiology programs,” said Dr. Henri Lamothe, chief medical officer and vice president of quality with Upper Allegheny Health System, which operates Olean General and Bradford (Pa.) Regional Medical Center. “Since his start here at UAHS ... he has begun to improve efficiency, introduce new procedures and develop this service for our region.
“Dr. Dunleavy has a great outlook for the future of our IR program,” Lamothe added.
Dunleavy, knowing the impact that health care has on rural communities, said he sees the opportunity to bring innovation and non-pharmaceutical and non-surgical treatments to this region.
“I’m looking forward to developing the vascular and interventional radiology program in this community,” he said, “creating a service line that will not only meet the needs of this area but find growth opportunities is important.”
Dunleavy’s office is at the Comprehensive Vascular Center at 623 Main St., ground floor. Appointments can be made by calling (716) 375-7035.
