In her personal life, Lindsay Alessi is a dedicated blood donor—a small, recurring act of selflessness that mirrors the extraordinary compassion she brings to her work. For more than 20 years, Lindsay has been a steady, reassuring presence in the Dialysis Center at Oishei Children’s Hospital, where she’s cared for countless young patients and their families. In 2024, she was named Employee of the Year—a fitting recognition for someone who doesn’t just care for others but gives of herself in the truest sense.
Lindsay is known as a team player and quiet leader who steps up without being asked. She’s the first to pick up extra shifts, the one organizing the Kidney Walk team and the one who always makes OCH feel like home for her patients and colleagues.
In 2023, her compassion took on an entirely new meaning when she met Jonathon, a pediatric dialysis patient needing a kidney transplant. When no family members were a match and time was running out, Lindsay decided to donate her kidney. After testing confirmed she was a match, she didn’t hesitate. She gave Jonathon a second chance at life.
Lindsay had never had surgery before and underwent the transplant at another facility. Still, her recovery was swift and smooth, and just one month later, she was back to running five miles. Today, she continues to advocate for living donation and encourages others to consider giving the gift of life.
Outside of work, Lindsay is deeply inspired by her family—including her mother, who has spent over 50 years as a nurse at OCH. That legacy of care and generosity lives on in Lindsay, whose selflessness, dependability and strength have made her a role model for patients, families and staff alike.
