Congratulations to Desiree Duman, clinical pharmacy coordinator, for being selected as the 2022 Employee of the Year for Oishei Children's Hospital (OCH).
Desiree has been known to put her patients and their families first. She always finds a way to advocate for them, while also being respectful, approachable and a great communicator. She provides excellent care to her patients and is meticulous in her notetaking and tracking to know the specific details of each and every patient.
Throughout her 17 years of experience at Kaleida Health, Desiree has gone above and beyond to communicate needs for patients with all members of the team including the support of providers and nurses. She always contributes to patient care, whether on site or not. She extends herself beyond her assigned role to not only work with the providers to determine therapy, but also to follow up to ensure the medications are on hand, ordered, received and on hand in a timely manner. She has never once said, “I’m too busy” or “I can’t do that…” She always has time for the patient and their family!
A clinical pharmacist in the PICU shared that, “Desiree is one of the most compassionate people that I know, both inside and outside of the walls of Oishei Children’s Hospital. I take great confidence in knowing that I share patients with her.” It is also known that Desiree brings in cookies, cakes and other items to celebrate her patients when they have finished their last round of chemo, and most recently, donated a car seat to a family needing one in order to take their child home.
Desiree is a team player and is indispensable for the Inpatient Hematology/Oncology and Pharmacy teams. Her positive outlook no doubt contributes favorably to the patient and family experience, as well as to that of the healthcare team.
Outside of work, Desiree volunteers with Camp Good Days, the P.U.N.T Foundation, and Stone’s Buddies and she also enjoys spending quality time with her family.
