National Pharmacist Day

National Pharmacist Day is a chance to celebrate the incredible work that pharmacists do for their patients.

Thanks to you, the profession is ranked among the most trusted in America

Although many people may picture a pharmacist wearing a white coat and working behind a counter, pharmacists are increasingly involved in all aspects of patient care, including in hospitals, community environments, specialty pharmacies, and more. Pharmacists are also a growing profession, with the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics predicting a 6 percent growth in employment for the profession between 2016 and 2026.

Pharmacists have a myriad of reasons for entering the profession, ranging from the meaningful patient interactions to the opportunities to move up the career ladder.

“Pharmacists play an integral and ever-expanding role in modern health-systems settings," said William Loeffler, PharmD, MBA, senior director of pharmacy for Kaleida Health. "Kaleida Health’s approximately 100 health-system based pharmacists strive to optimize the safe and effective use of medications to ensure our patients receive best-in-class care."

Loeffler said Kaleida Health pharmacists review more than 3 million medication orders and dispense nearly 8 million doses of medications each year.

"Additionally, our inpatient and outpatient pharmacist teams support medication-safety quality initiatives, DNV accreditation standards, registry participation, clinical trials, transition of care programs, and much more. We are proud of our profession and proud to work for Kaleida Health," he said.

Pharmacists are indispensable members of the healthcare team, contributing significantly to patient care, medication management and public health. Please join us in congratulating them on National Pharmacist Day.
