Employee of the Year: Rose Vancoevering

Congratulations to Rose Vancoevering, PT, for being selected as the 2024 Employee of the Year at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital (MFSH) and DeGraff Medical Park.

Rose is soft-spoken, thoughtful and kind. She has a welcoming personality that puts patients at ease and encourages them to participate in therapy to their fullest potential. She has everyone's best interests in mind and works hard to help patients and their families achieve the best outcome throughout their stay. Whenever the hospital is full, Rose is a key team player with the nursing staff prioritizing patient care in hopes of getting discharges out quickly and safely, regardless of how busy she is.

Comments from her colleagues:

  • I’ve had the pleasure of working with Rose for a year and a half. Rose has continued to demonstrate unwavering admirable qualities throughout this time. She is eager to assist and support her team members, exemplifies compassion and respect with her patients, and always with an upbeat demeanor. Rose is deserving of recognition for her performance.
  • Rose is always cheerful and smiling. She is always willing to help and lend a hand to her co-workers and hospital staff. She is kind and caring with her patients and a great asset to our department!
  • As a former RN on 3 West I interacted with Rose daily. Her compassion, integrity and ability to do what is right by the patients and the staff has made me happy to have her on our team here at Kaleida Health. She always comes in with a smile and a positive mindset. She truly holds our values to heart.
  • Rose is a very hardworking employee who is always putting her patients first, while keeping their safety and well-being in mind.
  • Rose is the best there is. She is top notch. Everyone is safer when Rose is participating in their care. I watched her literally lift and prevent a fall for a patient who was going down. She’s the strongest person there is, I don’t know how she does it. We are lucky to have her on our team.
  • Rose is definitely a valued member of the team on 3 West. She is approachable and helps discharge planning with problem solving for difficult to place patients. Rose always has a great attitude and works with the social work team to see priority cases. She puts notes in immediately to assist with length of stay.
  • Rose is an excellent physical therapist and co-worker. She will always go out of her way to ensure patient/staff safety and is always willing to lend a hand. She is kind, patient and compassionate about her work as a physical therapist. She always strives to reach the best outcomes for her patients and empowers them to perform their best. She is an absolute joy to work with and consistently maintains Kaleida Health's mission and values.
  • While Rose and I are not in the same therapy role, we are both members of the rehab team. Rose is the co-worker that you can always depend on. She is the first to offer a hand – whether it is to help with positioning a patient for me for a swallow eval, or reviewing a patient’s chart and past medical history. Rose will check in with the SLP’s regarding patients with swallowing concerns if she notices a patient having difficulty at meals. She truly cares for not only the patients but her co-workers. She is always respectful to a family’s request and is able to offer professional guidance while always keeping the patient and family’s goals in mind. When I see I have a patient for speech and swallow that is also receiving PT from Rose, I know it’s going to be a good day.

Beyond her role in rehabilitation:

Not only is Rose an excellent employee on a day-to-day basis, but she takes on additional responsibilities and roles within the system to impact not only her rehab department, but to elevate Kaleida Health as a whole. Rose has been an active member in the DEI events and activities, marching in the pride parade each year with her family and an active attendee at site DEI events such as the Memorial Day flag raising, 5/14 remembrance events and the pride flag raising. She is continually challenging herself to improve her knowledge and skills clinically as well as sharing her skills in different areas. Rose has been an active member of the Oncology Rehab Committee for Commission on Cancer as a representative for the MFSH IP team. She has been an active member of the site skin care committee as well. She truly is a well-rounded employee that goes above and beyond her daily job duties.

Rose has 2 young daughters who she loves to spend most of her time with. In her free time, she loves to run and workout. Rose frequently participates in and donates to free community art classes, while recently learning how to throw on a pottery wheel. She is on the cancer care committee, the PTA, and she also volunteers at her daughter's school.

Thank you, Rose Vancoevering, for all you do in caring for others. We are proud to name you the 2024 Employee of the Year for Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital and DeGraff Medical Park!
