Congratulations to Cynthia (Cindy) Carey, RN, Float Pool for being selected as the 2023 Employee of the Year at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital and DeGraff Medical Park.
Cindy is an outstanding nurse who always goes above and beyond in delivering compassionate, high-quality care. As a nurse in the float pool for over 25 years, she consistently puts her patients first, showing exceptional clinical skills while maintaining empathy and compassion for them and their families. She will go the extra mile to advocate for her patients when needed and is always at the bedside, comforting her patients, fostering trust and empowering them.
Over the years Cindy has become ‘work mom’ to several generations of nurses, with colleagues stating, “When I grow up, I want to be like Cindy Carey.” They feel they can ask her any question without being judged, and she’s often looked for by novice and veteran nurses alike who know and trust her. While she’d never admit it, she’s become quite the leader amongst the night shift.
One night, she was precepting a new nurse orientee when the call came in at 3 a.m. that the Emergency Department was short-staffed. Even though it was almost the end of the shift and per contract, she didn't need to float to another unit as she was precepting, she agreed to go to help out her colleagues.
