DiLuca to Retire from Kaleida Health; Loeffler Named Senior Director of Pharmacy Services

After over 40 years with Kaleida Health, Andrew DiLuca, R.Ph., senior director of Pharmacy Services for Kaleida Health, will be retiring on May 19, 2023.

DiLuca began his career as a pharmacy technician at Buffalo General Medical Center in 1978. He received his B.S. Pharmacy from the State University of New York at Buffalo and completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Buffalo General Hospital. He was hired as a staff pharmacist and has worked in various administrative roles, including satellite coordinator and pharmacy manager. He has overseen pharmacy operations for Kaleida Health since 2013 and served on numerous decision-making committees for the system, including Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Electronic Medical Record Steering, Quality Leadership and Patient Safety Council, and the Medical/Dental Staff Executive Committee. He is involved in numerous Pharmacy Advisory Boards and is currently the Chairman of the Premier National Pharmacy Committee.

As a preceptor, he has helped implement hospital/health-system pharmacy rotations at Buffalo General Medical Center for many pharmacy students. DiLuca is highly active in pharmacy professional organizations. He is a member of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists and the New York State Council of Health System Pharmacists. He is also a member of the Western New York Society of Health System Pharmacists, where he has served as a presidential officer and New York State delegate. He is currently a member of the Professional Affairs Committee for the New York State Council of Health System Pharmacists. In 2020, he was honored by the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences with the Orville C. Baxter Memorial Professional Practice Award.

William Loeffler, PharmD, MBA, will assume the role of senior director of Pharmacy Services for Kaleida Health.

Since 2018, Loeffler has served as director of pharmacy at Buffalo General Medical Center where he was responsible for the day-to-day distribution of medications, planning and implementation of site procedures for pharmacy dispensing, and managing pharmacy purchasing functions, which includes contract compliance and inventory levels.

"Bill has been an integral part of the pharmacy since he joined Buffalo General," said Michael Mineo, executive vice president and chief medical officer for Kaleida Health.   "He is well suited to continue Andy’s work of providing excellent pharmacy services to all inpatients and outpatient clinics within Kaleida Health.”

Loeffler began his pharmacy career at Buffalo General as a pharmacist in 2008, where he worked on the cardiology and anticoagulation teams and staffed the inpatient pharmacy. In 2014, he was named manager of pharmacy at Buffalo General.

Loeffler received the Yale-New Haven Health Pharmacy Residency Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award (2018), Faculty Member of the Year Award (2012-2013) from D'Youville College School of Pharmacy and the Clinical Educator of the Year Award (2012) from the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, New York chapter. He has written or contributed to a number of publications and serves on a variety of professional organizations.

He received his Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his MBA from D'Youville College School of Business.
