The efficiency of the DeGraff Medical Park Emergency Department was recently showcased during the European Society for Emergency Medicine's annual meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Joshua Lynch, DO, medical director of emergency medicine at DeGraff Medical Park, presented on improved throughput and efficiency following implementation of the ED's point of care lab testing program.
"Rolling out point of care lab testing in emergency departments has the potential to increase efficiency," said Dr. Lynch. "Typical ED models utilize the lab to process samples, but by moving the work directly into the ED itself, samples are often processed faster. This allows EDs to successfully manage higher volumes and improve throughput while giving patients a better experience."
