Amit Kandel, MD, MBA, is stepping down from his role as Kaleida Health's corporate director for stroke services, which he has held since 2022.
Under his leadership, the stroke division has doubled in faculty size, shortened door to needle and door to puncture times, implemented the extended time to treatment windows, engaged in multiple clinical trials with high recruitment rates and expanded educational opportunities for medical students and residents. In addition, under his leadership Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute's Comprehensive Stroke Center received the prestigious American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award.
Effective March 1, 2026, Marilou Ching, MD, MPH, FACP, has been named corporate director for stroke services for Kaleida Health. Dr. Ching has served as the vascular neurology fellowship director since 2009, has been an investigator in 30+ industry and NIH-funded clinical trials, is a member of the American College of Physicians Peer Review Panel, developed the tracking system to ensure metrics for “Get with the Guidelines” and is an award-winning leader within the stroke field.
