Nearly two years after coming out of retirement to fill a top executive leadership post at Kaleida Health, Cheryl Klass is retiring once again.
Kaleida began a search last month for a new chief operating officer, the post that Klass has occupied since July 2022. She took over as COO and executive vice president for Don Boyd when he was promoted to CEO for the system last summer.
According to a job posting on LinkedIn, the COO job pays a salary of $200,000-$250,000, with primary responsibility for daily operations for Kaleida sites and its associated ambulatory centers.
Klass retired in mid-2021 after 45 years in health care, then came out of retirement in February 2022 to serve as interim president at Buffalo General Medical Center and Gates Vascular Institute.
Before her first retirement, Klass served as executive vice president and chief nursing officer for the $2 billion health system, and had previously spent five years as president of Buff General before becoming Kaleida’s senior vice of operations.
In addition to the COO post, Klass had also served as chief nursing officer until May, when Majorie Quint-Bouzid was recruited to the role from Texas.
“She promised us one year – and in true Cheryl Klass fashion – she will be here two years since she retired,” Boyd said in a prepared comment. “It is further proof of her commitment to the patients that we serve, the workforce that she represents, the teammates that she has and to Kaleida Health’s mission overall. Her dedication is and always has been incredible.”
