The University at Buffalo and Kaleida Health have recruited a new health executive to the region from North Carolina.
Dr. Benny Joyner was appointed the A. Conger Goodyear professor and chair of the department of pediatrics in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at UB; president and CEO for UBMD Pediatrics; and will jointly serve as pediatrician-in-chief at John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital and as chief of service for pediatrics for Kaleida. The appointments take effect Jan. 6.
Joyner comes to the post from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, where he serves as chief of the division of pediatric critical care medicine and vice chair of clinical operations for the department of pediatrics.
Joyner, a pediatric intensivist who cares for seriously ill children in intensive care environments, is known for his work in simulation training and medical education.
UBMD Pediatrics is one of 20 divisions under UBMD Physicians’ Group, the region’s largest multi-specialty medical practice. With 185 beds, Oishei Children is the only freestanding children’s hospital in the state and is among just 43 in the country.
Among several leadership roles, Joyner previously served as director of the UNC Clinical Skills and Patient Simulation Center and taught in the departments of anesthesia and social medicine.
