Officials with Upper Allegheny Health System are highlighting a positive response to a potential safety concern last week.
In the early morning of March 7, team members from the Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center and facilities department came together, in a demonstration of teamwork and rapid response.
The Pavilion, the skilled nursing facility, had a scheduled power outage. At around 6 a.m., the power was restored which caused a surge with some HVAC equipment. Smoke began to fill the hallways of the second and fourth floor of the Pavilion. The team immediately responded and had all-hands-on deck to ensure the safety of the residents following all policies and safety protocols. Residents of the second floor were swiftly moved into the third floor of the hospital by the Pavilion staff due to the amount of smoke present on that floor.
“This team is truly amazing and puts the safety of our residents to the forefront,” said Jill Owens, MD, president, UAHS. “I’m proud to be a part of this organization and see how everyone really steps to the plate for our community to prevent any harm to our patients.”
The smoke was cleared from all areas of the Pavilion prior to 7 a.m. and the facilities department investigated any other areas of concern prior to returning any displaced residents to the second-floor rooms. All residents’ families were notified of the incident by the Pavilion staff.
“I just want to thank our Pavilion and facilities team that diligently worked together to result in no resident health or safety issues. Great work,” added Owens.
