“Growing awareness one seed at a time” is the slogan on Addie’s Vegetable Stand sign in Eldred.
Addie Bell, a sophomore at Otto-Eldred High School, opened Addie’s Vegetable Stand which was supplied with fresh produce that the young teenager grew in her garden along with vegetables and handmade items that were donated from family and friends. Proceeds generated from her business venture were donated to Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC).
The young philanthropist donated $1,000 to BRMC for the hospital to provide age appropriate toys and books to pediatric patients. After running the produce stand for five weeks, Bell overshot her original goal which allowed her to make multiple donations to different organizations including to the Otto-Eldred blessing boxes.
“At the beginning of this journey, my goal was to raise $500,” said Bell. “With the help of many people and the support of the surrounding communities, I am excited to announce that I was able to raise $2,500 in just five weeks.”
Bell explained why she started this venture and that being a member of Future Farmers of America (FFA) influenced her to give back to her community.
“A big part of FFA is not only learning about agriculture but also a mission to serve. I want to be able to serve my community and give back to them for everything they have done for me,” Bell said.
Addie’s Vegetable Stand will remain open for a few more weeks. The remaining proceeds generated by the produce stand will be donated to the Otto-Eldred FFA program.
“Recently our FFA program started a greenhouse, and I would like to be able to buy seeds, soil, and other supplies to get them started.”
