Alice Gaughan-Hemmerling Retires

Alice Gaughan-Hemmerling is retiring from her job at Kaleida Health Laboratories after 44.5 years of service.

She began her career as a generalist at the Deaconess on the 3-11 p.m. shift in 1979, prior to moving over to what was then Buffalo General Hospital. Alice worked many years there in chemistry. For the past 20 years she has worked in the Immunology Department with chemistry at the Center for Laboratory Medicine on Flint Rd.

Alice is very caring, and this has been reflected every day in her work at the laboratory. She has been a lead organizer for get well and bereavement cards, and also headed up collections for coworkers or group donation drives. Alice’s coworkers describe her as, “very considerate of the trials in others' lives,” and note that she is always willing to listen and help.

Outside of work, Alice partakes in healthy gluten-free cooking, gardening and garden walks as well as working on perfecting her backyard pond. In retirement, she plans to enjoy spending more time with her husband Dave and son Eric, who are both talented musicians and have performed together at different venues. Alice has often been the compassionate caregiver for her immediate and extended family as well as her dog Sammy, a Bichon Poo. She and Dave are looking forward to taking trips, long walks and exploring new adventures with Sammy in their motorhome.

Congratulations Alice on your 44.5 years of dedicated service to Kaleida Health Laboratories.
