What Is Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine Care?

Pulmonology and sleep medicine care at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Buffalo focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of respiratory and sleep-related conditions in children and adolescents.

Our program is part of UBMD Pediatrics and is affiliated with the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo. Care is delivered through hospital-based clinics, specialty programs and accredited diagnostic laboratories, with a strong emphasis on family-centered care, wellness and quality of life.

Who We Serve

Respiratory Conditions

Asthma and chronic lung disease, chronic cough and wheezing, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, recurrent pneumonia, neuromuscular respiratory weakness and shortness of breath.

Sleep Conditions

Obstructive and central sleep apnea, sleep-related hypoventilation, narcolepsy, insomnia and hypersomnia, parasomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, and snoring and sleep-wake disorders.

General Pulmonology

Diagnosis and management of asthma, chronic cough, wheezing, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, recurrent infections and neuromuscular breathing disorders.

Cystic Fibrosis Center

A Cystic Fibrosis Foundation certified care, teaching and research center providing coordinated pediatric and adult care and clinical trials.

Assisted Breathing Center

Care for children who require CPAP, BiPAP, mechanical ventilation, cough-assist and airway clearance, including the region’s only NYS-designated Apnea Program.

Pediatric Sleep Center

The only pediatric-dedicated sleep program in WNY accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, serving infants through age 21, with diagnostic and therapeutic sleep studies.

Non-Invasive Ventilation and CPAP

Initiation and management of CPAP and BiPAP therapy with education and long-term monitoring.

Diagnostic Testing

Spirometry, lung volumes, diffusing capacity, methacholine challenge, exercise testing and the region’s only certified sweat testing laboratory.
